The chemicals can be easily sensed by termites / white ants, making them very useful for providing protection on treated locations. However, if the treated areas are not fully covered, or if they are later compromised, then termites can detect these breaks and access the property.

The most widely used repellent chemical is Bifenthrin, which has a residual life of up to 5 years.

Non Repelling Chemicals

Non repellent chemicals aren’t identified by termites, and so they won’t stay away from the chemical. As a result of this, white ants go through the chemical and die as a result of contact with it. Individual insects will transfer the chemical onto fellow colony members, causing a flow on result.

Because the termites do not detect these non-repellent chemicals, they can’t tell untreated from treated places, and are much less likely to gain ingress through breaks.

The most used non-repellent chemical is Fipronil, which has a residual life of as much as eight years.
