Unfotunately however, when areas are compromised at a later stage, or if access is an issue and not all areas are treated, termites will recognise the gaps and could sometimes get in.

Bifenthrin has a residual lifetime of as many as 5 years and is the most widely used repellent chemical currently available.

Non-Repellent Chemicals

Non-repellents are chemicals that termites cannot detect. Given they then do not avoid them, they will go through the residue and then die. Additionally, individual white ants will often transfer these chemicals on to other members in the colony, generating a compounding and efficient effect.

Because termites are unable to detect these non-repellents, they see no distinction between areas which are treated and the ones which are not, so there is likely to be reduced ingress through gaps.

The most frequently used non-repellent is Fipronil, which has a residual life as high as eight years.

An Above Ground System is commonly used to erradicate termites from your residence, by locating bait stations directly on termite activity to encourage the white ants to feed on the bait as opposed to the timber. In addition, when worker termites return to the colony, they unknowingly transfer the bait to other colony members, therefore causing a compounding effect.
