Repellent Chemicals

Repellent chemicals provide great protection from termites as they are easily detected and strongly avoided by them. Unfortunately however, when there’s a break in the chemical, either from being unable to access all areas, or if a treated area is later compromised, termites may recognise these gaps and gain ingress.

The commonly used repellent is Bifenthrin, which has a residual life of up to 5 years after application.

Non-Repelling Chemicals

Termites cannot detect these repellents. Because of this, they don’t avoid the treated areas, and as a result are killed after exposure to them. Additionally, individual termites can pass the chemical on to other colony members, causing a flow on result.

Because termites can’t detect non repellents, they are not able to tell the difference between treated and untreated areas, so access via possible gaps is significantly reduced.

The most frequently used non repellent is Fipronil with a residual life expectancy of as much as 8 years.
