Repellent chemicals provide great protection from termites since they are easily detected and strongly avoided by them. Unfortunately however, when there’s a gap in the chemical, either from a lack of access to all areas, or if a treated area is later compromised, white ants may recognise these gaps and gain access.

The frequently used repellent is Bifenthrin, which has a residual life of as many as five years following application.

Non Repelling Chemicals

Non repellent chemicals are not identified by termites, and so they don’t steer clear of the treated areas. As a result of this, white ants move over the chemical and die because of exposure to it. Individual insects will transfer the chemical onto other colony members, resulting in a flow on result.

Because termites can’t tell apart treated locations to non-treated areas, the potential of termite ingress via untreated gaps is much lower.

The most commonly used non-repellent is Fipronil, which has a residual life of up to 8 years.
