Repelling Chemicals

Repellent chemicals offer great protection from termites because they are easily identified and strongly avoided by them. Unfortunately however, if there is a break in the chemical, either due to a lack of access to all areas, or if a treated area is later compromised, termites may identify the gaps and gain ingress.

Bifenthrin is the regularly used chemical repellent, with a residual life span of as much as 5 years.

Non Repelling Chemicals

These are chemicals that termites don’t detect. Given they then don’t avoid them, they pass through the residue and die. In addition, individual white ants may also transfer these chemicals on to other members of the colony, creating a flow on and efficient result.

Because termites cannot detect non-repellents, they are not able to know the difference between treated and untreated areas, so entrance through possible gaps is significantly reduced.

The most commonly used non repellent is Fipronil, which has a residual life as high as 8 years.
